Recent studies reveal a troubling trend:
Black women are being diagnosed with breast cancer at younger ages in higher rates compared to other racial and ethnic groups
Research shows Black women:
- More likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 45 compared to other racial/ethnic groups
- Twice as likely to develop triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC)—an aggressive subtype with fewer treatment options.
- Despite similar screening rates, Black women often experience delayed diagnoses and later-stage detection due to disparities in healthcare access and systemic inequities.
- Have higher breast cancer mortality rates, partly due to these factors.

6. FAITH-BASED OUTREACH: BRIDGING CANCER AWARENESS AND SPIRITUAL SUPPORT
Each year, The Olive Branch of Hope is honored to share vital breast cancer information and resources with women’s faith groups across the community. These gatherings offer a unique and powerful space to connect, learn, and uplift one another through shared faith and lived experience.
For many Black women and women of colour, spirituality is a core source of strength, healing, and resilience throughout the cancer journey. Yet, faith-based spaces are often overlooked by health organizations—or left out entirely due to hesitation from group leaders or a lack of culturally sensitive engagement.
At The Olive Branch of Hope, we believe in meeting women where they are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our faith-based outreach program ensures that women in spiritual communities have access to trusted cancer education, emotional support, and culturally relevant resources.
We’re committed to opening doors for honest conversations about breast cancer in sacred spaces where many women already seek guidance and comfort.
