The following information is from "Looking Ahead . . . a handbook of survivorship issues" as published by the Lakeridge Health Corporation.
- Insurance may be difficult to obtain once you have a diagnosis of cancer. Consider this if you present employer provides coverage, and you wish to change jobs.
- Most companies will continue with the present coverage, but many are reluctant to provide new or additional coverage for a number of years after treatment is completed.
- You may wish to call individual insurance companies for specific information.
- If may be difficult to get travel insurance for emergencies unrelated to your cancer diagnosis.
- It is acceptable to "shop around", but do not cancel current policies without new/better coverage first.
- A financial planner may help answer questions and assist you to develop an appropriate financial plan for your future.
